Biography – Michael Stern
MICHAEL S. STERN: President & Chief Executive Officer
Michael Stern is the President, CEO and co-founder of MAP. Prior to founding MAP Stern worked as an independent consultant for lenders, lessors and investors in airline related transactions. He worked on the restructuring of United Airline’s secured public debt (EETC, ETC, PTC and private debt) during the airline’s bankruptcy. Prior to his consulting business Stern worked at GE Capital as a Senior Vice President for North American Marketing for GECAS where he was responsible for a dozen North American airline relationships. During this period he generated new business in excess of $1.5B, involving various products ranging from operating leases, single investor leases, and debt for aircraft, engines and other aviation related equipment. Co-lead, the restructure of a major US based airline relationship in bankruptcy with improved long term economics.
Prior to GE Capital’s 2001 acquisition of Heller Financial Inc, Stern was the Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Heller’s Aircraft Finance Division based in Chicago, Illinois. During his 13 years at this position he completed in excess of 100 transactions, including direct purchases from manufacturers, sale/lease backs with airlines, purchases of aircraft subject to existing leases as well as developing joint ventures with other financial institutions for the order, placement and financing of new aircraft. Additionally, he was responsible for the releasing of aircraft as leases expired, selling aircraft subject to lease for material gains and repossessing aircraft from defaulting lessees.
Prior to this position, Stern held various positions of increasing responsibility at Heller in commercial and equipment lending.
Stern holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance from Rutgers College of Arts and Sciences, Camden, New Jersey.
